Today I will share a sweet recipe, which name is CHENNA JHILLI. Chenna jhilli is a popular dessert from cuisine of Odisha, India. It origin is Nimapada in Puri District of Odisha. It is simple and different version of Gulab janun. CHENNA JHILLI is very tasty dessert, this sweet is made during the festive season. It is easy and quick to make and requires very few ingredients and all ingredients are available in local market or at home. Chenna jhilli is made of deep fried chenna ( cottage cheese ) ball and soaked in a sugar syrup. Let's started.
HOW TO MAKE CHENNA JHILLI
INGREDIENTS
Milk - 1 litre
Lemon - 2 No. ( Collect juice )
Cardamom powder - 1/2 teaspoon
Baking powder - 1/2 teaspoon
Maida - 2 - 3 tablespoon
Sugar - 1 cup ( 200gm )
Green cardamom - 2- 3
Water - 11/2 cup
Piping bag - 1
Ghee / Oil for deep fry
Almond for garnishing
PROCESS
FOR MAKING CHENNA
At first take a cooking vessel pour one liter milk in to the vessel and boil the milk. Turn the oven in sim potion & add lemon juice or vinegar (mix with some water). Stir the milk & wait for curdling there after separate chenna (cottage cheese) & greenish whey from the curdle mixture.
Then strain the CHENNA ( cottage cheese ) through a muslin cloth, squeeze it very well.
FOR MAKING SUGAR SYRUP
Put sugar and water in a pot, light up your gas oven & put the pot on oven and start stirring until sugar is completely dissolved. and continue to heat until the sugar syrup became completely dense. (single thread consistency) add 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice. Mix it, switch off the oven. Keep it aside.
FOR MAKING CHENNA JHILLI
Take a plate, transfer the CHENNA into the plate.
Now add maida, baking powder, knead the chenna with your plams and get a smooth texture. Knead at least 15 minutes.Then add cardamom powder mix it. Take a piping bag pour the chenna mixture in the piping bag.
Now take a karai or fring pan pour ghee/oil , heat it.
When oil is hot , cut the piping bag in medium size.
Grease your hand with ghee or oil. Press the piping bag and take some CHENNA mixture in your hand, give a shape as your choice. Put in the pan. Deep fry until golden brown colour. Remove from the pan.
All chenna ball put into the lukewarm sugar syrup. Rest it for two hours.
Your CHENNA JHILLI is ready. Sprinkle some almond slices on top, serve it. Enjoy the taste of Chenna jhilli from State of Odisha.
USEFUL NOTE
Always put Chenna ball in lukewarm sugar syrup. You can add 1/2 teaspoon semolina in CHENNA mixture.
